Failover mechanism on Linux Router

I have configured a Linux router recently which using a SNAT and routine is managed by iptables. I already explained how to setup a linux router on my earlier post.

When I found this command useful is when I lost connection ISP which router used to configure. So it must affect all the users who connected to the internet and obviously I will get lots of complaint call also.

This scenario, I have one or more ISP’s line. Both are configured to use Linux based router. When I lost one ISP I just execute this script on the router.

Then it will start to use other ISP and users will not affect the internet connectivity issue.

#route del -net 0.0.0.0/0; route add -net 0.0.0.0/0 gw 192.168.0.16

Here 192.168.0.16 ip suppose to be the other router on the same network.
