Installing ImageMagick on Centos5

How do I install ImageMagic on Centos

#yum install ImageMagick.i386
#yum install ImageMagick-devel.i386

1. How do I test whether it’s working or not ?

 [root@u15382543 ~]# convert logo: logo.gif

2. How do I verify that which image extensions are enabled on ImageMagick ?

[root@u15382543 ~]#identify -list format

How to up-grade Imagemagick

My yum repository shows older version of Imagemagic installed and some of image functions does not work with this old yum version. So I need to update Imagemagic installation.

[root@rc-040 ~]# whereis convert
convert: /usr/bin/convert /usr/share/man/man1/convert.1.gz
#mv /usr/bin/convert /usr/bin/convert_old
# yum install freetype*
also need to install all the dev package required for jpeg, png, gif and GD library
#yum install libjpeg* libpng*,libgif* gd*
#wget ftp://ftp.imagemagick.org/pub/ImageMagick/ImageMagick.tar.gz
#cd ImageMagickx.x.x
#./configure –with-freetype=yes
#make

Pls note the ImageMagic file format support lists shown after the make.
# make install
# ln -s /usr/local/convert /usr/bin/convert
[root@rc-040 ~]# ldconfig
# identify -version
-sh-3.2# identify -version
Version: ImageMagick 6.6.7-1 2011-02-02 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org
