WHM/Cpanel : SSH root login disabled and “su” getting rejected

Yesterday I had got one WHM/Cpanel access to a server for enabling “upload progressbar” php extension in it. Shell access was disabled by default on all the user accounts and I have given whm root access.

I have enabled shell access to user and able to login the shell. I got permission denied whenever I uses “su” to switch the root shell.

pushin@asd.com [~]# su -
-bash: /bin/su: Permission denied
pushin@asd.com [~]#
pushin@asd.com [~]# ls -la /bin/su
-rwsr-x--- 1 root wheel 23960 Jun  3 04:31 /bin/su*

And I found the entry “PermitRootLogin no” in “/etc/ssh/sshd_config” which is blocking ssh root login and this “su” is belong to “wheel” group found.

Google will not help me and I’m searching an editor over the WHM/Cpanel to remove the above entry from the config.

I also I tried “ Main >> Security Center >> Manage root’s SSH Keys” option. It won’t worked since the root login is disabled as well as “su” command is denied for all users by default.

During the search, I found that there is an option for adding users to “wheel” group and hence they can able to use “su” command. That’s it πŸ™‚ and solved all my headache πŸ™‚ and done the installs within couple of minutes.
